Our events are friendly and informal. You will meet a wide range of people, from other members and artists, to potential partners and funders. You never know where a connection might lead! Networking Events also give you an opportunity to visit different cultural venues in Southwark. 

Each event covers a different theme or key issue relevant to the arts sector in Southwark. There are presentations by specialists and opportunities for discussion - and of course lots of time for meeting others and networking!

  •  March 11:  ‘Southwark Arts – A Changing Landscape?’ @ Tate Modern

    Was a day long conference with specially selected speakers who have successfully developed projects which navigate through fallow funded art worlds, projects that helped the attendees do just that. Each speaker shared their knowledge, insight & inspiration.

  • Feb 11: SE15 Creative Networking Event – Multidisciplinary Art Practises @ South London Gallery

A chance to meet artists & learn about their work. Be part of our next SE15 Networking Event in Multidisciplinary Arts at South London Gallery on Tuesday the 15th 3.30 to 6pm.

SAF events are a great way to connect with Southwark’s Arts Community – they are informal meetings where you can meet like-minded artists and creatives, discuss ideas, share information and make contacts and connections!

Various approaches to Multidisciplinary Art practices. Like-minded artists,  sharing knowledge.What’s happening at SLG.

Speakers Included:

Georgina Davey. Developer Officer at South London Gallery

Jayne Lloyd. Multidisciplinary artist who’s practice covers drawing, mixed media sculpture, mixed media relief work, video, painting and participatory projects. Jayne recently exhibited in the Peckham Open at Peckham Space.

Savvas Pappasava. Multidisciplinary artist and technician who has worked in Southwark as a handyman for Occupation Studios. Currently involved in a residency where he is working with three other artist towards building a pedalo canal boat.

Kerri Meehan & Sophie Von Cundale. Multidisciplinary artists based in Peckham. Kerri Meehan is a collagist and video artist, who is currently writing a musical about the end of the world. Sophie von Cundale is a video artist who is currently remaking the Alien Quadrology.

Meehan & Von Cundale will be performing The Last Word, an ongoing project taking the form of an absurdist magazine show, surreal and schizophrenic in content, which reflects the eschatological nature of television broadcasting.

 

  •  Dec 10: SAF Winter Arts Market – Camberwell Green       

On Saturday 11th December, SAF’s second Winter Arts Market took place on Camberwell Green,  once again the arts were bought to life. Christmas shoppers and casual walkers were intrigued by the fabulous offer that the artists/makers provided. Other activities included Bouncy Castle and face painting brought fun to the kids.

Hartley Voices Choir gave some Christmas spirit to the market and Gongoma Planet played drums and put a rhythm to the winter experience.

  • Nov 10: SE15 Creative Networking Event


SAF’s SE15 Creative Networking Event took place on Tuesday 9th of November at Peckham Space. The event was a truly exceptional opportunity for artists to exhibit their work in a new, leading venue on Peckham Square.

SE15 is Peckham Space’s first OPEN exhibition. The event was a unique exhibition showcasing artworks that have a connection to Peckham. The selection panel for this exhibition consisted of representatives from: Tate Britain, Café Gallery Projects, Camberwell College of Arts, Art Licks and Peckham Space.

  • Oct 10: SE15 Creative Networking Event @ Buchan Road Community Hall

    At this SE15 Creative Networking Event attendees heared about the Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festivals plus opportunities/projects/events/activities for young people taking place/happening in the Peckham and Nunhead area.


The SE15 creative networking events were set up to support creative people working in the arts and creative industries within the Nunhead and Peckham area. They are an opportunity to meet like-minded artists and creatives, discuss new ideas, share information and make lots of contacts and links!

  • Oct 10:  UK Older People’s Day

    Seniors Creative Network in partnership with Southwark Council and Southwark Pensioners Centre hosted a special UK Older People’s Day event on the theme of ‘getting active and staying active in later life’

This informal and sociable afternoon provided a taste of new opportunities for over 60’s to be creative, get involved and get active.

Presentations:

Silver 2011 and Silver Views  - Time to start thinking creatively for Southwark’s annual art exhibition 

Over the Hill  - Find out about the free short training sessions for local organisations on promoting positive attitudes to ageing and older people 

Southwark Pensioners Centre - Find out what’s going on locally for over 60’s and how to be involved

Woolfson & Tay  - Creative writing workshops and other opportunities for older people at Bermondsey’s new café, gallery and bookshop

 

  • June 10: SE15 Creative Networking Event @ Peckham Settlement + Peckham Space  

    This was the second of our SE15 Networking events. Members got to preview Peckham Space, Southwark’s newest arts venue before its launch and found out about ACME's Southwark Studio Residency Programme.

  • May 10: ‘Big Dance Networking’ Event @ Inspire

  • March 10: ‘Celebrating Women’ Event @ Dulwich Library

    Southwark Arts Forum (SAF) host a networking event with South London Women Artists (SLWA), creating a platform to profile and showcase key female artist in Southwark.

  • March 10: ‘How to Work Creatively with Young People’ Networking Event @ Salmon Youth Theatre

    A free event for anyone that works with young people and arts projects. The event was for those wanting to make the first step in working with young people and who were interested in investigating creative ways of engaging with them through art projects.

  • Jan 10:  AGM @ Almond Studio, Biscuit Factory

    Our AGM 08-09 was an opportunity to find out more about SAF and visit the Biscuit Factory site where we are now based. We announced some significant changes to how SAF will operate, detailed in the presentations below.

  • Nov 09:  'Funding for the Arts and Older Learners' @ Inspire

    A Seniors Creative Network (SCN) looking at  potential sources of funding for arts and older people's projects, how to make successful funding applications and the benefits of partnership working. It was run in partnership with Silver, Southwark's festival for older people.

  • April 09: 'Theatre & Performance – Benefits to Older People' @ Oval House Theatre

    A Seniors Creative Network (SCN) event exploring the positive impacts of theatre and performance for older people. This art form is instrumental in enabling those involved to express and enjoy themselves,  in turn enhancing physical health and overall wellbeing.

  • March 09:   Focus: Music  +  Focus: Spoken Word  @ Shunt

    We created two special live evening events at the atmospheric Shunt Vaults, to promote the talents of local young emerging artists and to give them the opportunity to network with industry professionals and other SAF members. We had one night of fantastic music and one night of inspiring spoken word performances. The events were funded by Awards for All to help SAF reach out to local young artists and demonstrate how SAF can help in supporting their creative ambitions.

    Training event looking at what makes quality work experience, the benefits and barriers, plus ideas for improving participants own programmes.

  • Sept 08:  SAF 21st Birthday Party! @ Unicorn Theatre

    We celebrated 21 years of Southwark Arts Forum in style with over 150 members. We showcased members' performances and art work, and admired not quite real cakes by artist Eleanor Margolies.  Kathy O’Brien, Ro Shannon and Chris Lawrence retold SAF's early days.

    A Seniors Creative Network (SCN) event on the theme of acquired disability through the natural ageing process (e.g. Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Aphasia) and the important role that the arts can play in enhancing communication, reducing social isolation and improving quality of life. Part of the Boundless Festival.
